Project Profile
Grand Touring Automobile
Project Overview
When Grand Touring Automobiles set out to build their flagship Rolls Royce dealership in Oakville, Ontario, every aspect of the project demanded precision, performance, and a flawless finish. With luxury vehicles weighing several tons rolling across the floors daily, durability was as important as design. Graydor Flooring was engaged as the prime flooring contractor to deliver over 30,000 square feet of premium flooring and finishes — under tight timelines, with no margin for error.
Project Scope
Floor levelling: 10,000+ sq. ft.
Porcelain and wall tile installation: 20,000 sq. ft.
Carpet tile installation: 2,000 sq. ft.
Custom floating terrazzo staircase: 2-storey feature
Custom mosaic tile installation
Waterproofing, sloping, uncoupling membranes
Expansion and control joints
Custom floor system to bridge glazing and structural expansion joints
Duration: 16 weeks
Unique Challenges
Limited design specification at project outset – required design-build collaboration and on-the-fly problem solving.
Sequencing in tight spaces – multiple trades working simultaneously under compressed schedules.
Substrate levelling – exact tolerances needed to integrate with recessed stainless steel baseboards.
Custom engineering – fabrication and installation of a 2-storey floating terrazzo staircase.
Expansion joint integration – developed a one-off perimeter system to carry tile across structural expansion joints without compromising performance.
Custom Solution Highlight
Graydor engineered a bespoke perimeter floor system to manage structural expansion joints while maintaining a continuous tiled surface. A custom sheet metal substrate was fabricated to bridge the slab edge to the glazing wall, topped with Schluter trim and uncoupling membranes. This ensured long-term durability and aesthetics — a solution created in collaboration with engineers, architects, and designers specifically for this project.
